What Does "Research Use Only" Mean on Peptides?
"Research use only" (RUO) is a label that defines what a product is sold for: laboratory research. This post explains what the label means, what it rules out, and what a clear research-use-only listing should include.
Research blog: general laboratory-science and literature context. Not medical advice. Sealed Peptides materials are for laboratory research use only, and are not for human or veterinary use.
The short answer
A research-use-only peptide is a chemical sold for laboratory research: in vitro work, analytical method development and similar bench studies. It is not an approved drug, it is not a food or supplement, and it is not for human or veterinary use.
What the label rules out
- No use claims: an RUO listing should not describe effects in people or animals.
- No administration instructions: RUO products are not sold with directions for use in people or animals.
- No diagnostic or clinical use: RUO material is not for diagnostic or clinical procedures.
What a clear RUO listing includes
A sequence or name, molecular weight and formula, the amount per vial, the form (usually lyophilized powder), storage conditions and typical characterization such as HPLC purity and Mass spectrometry identity. Our lab checks post covers verification in more detail.
Why sellers use the label
The label states plainly what the product is for. A seller that pairs "research use only" with use claims or administration advice is sending mixed signals, and that is worth noticing when comparing vendors.
Buying research-use-only peptides
Every Sealed Peptides product, such as tirzepatide and BPC-157, is sold for laboratory research use only. See the printable price list, volume pricing and the price per mg calculator; the free Peptide Lab Handbook has handling and record-keeping sheets.
