Research Overview

Tesamorelin (Research Overview)

Tesamorelin is a synthetic 44-amino-acid analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) carrying an N-terminal trans-3-hexenoic acid group. It is used in research as a tool compound for studying GHRH receptor signaling and the growth hormone axis.

Mechanism of Action

Tesamorelin binds the GHRH receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells, a Gs-coupled receptor that raises intracellular cAMP and drives growth hormone synthesis and release in receptor-signaling models. The trans-3-hexenoyl modification at the N-terminus is described in the literature as protecting the peptide from DPP-IV cleavage, which extends its stability compared with native GHRH.

Because it acts upstream at the pituitary, studies have examined how Tesamorelin preserves a pulsatile pattern of growth hormone release and how this differs from direct exposure to growth hormone itself. Downstream readouts commonly include IGF-1 levels in the models studied.

Research Areas

Published research has examined the GH–IGF-1 axis in cell-based receptor assays and in animal models, using Tesamorelin to characterize GHRH receptor pharmacology, receptor desensitization, and feedback signaling.

A separate body of published clinical-literature work has reported on body-composition and metabolic endpoints in defined study populations. These reports are summarized for context only and are not claims about any product we sell.

Findings from animal or in-vitro systems do not establish safety or efficacy for any indication and should not be interpreted as medical claims.
