Dilution and serial dilution calculator
Two pieces of dilution arithmetic. You enter every number; nothing is pre-filled or suggested. Concentrations in one calculation share one unit and volumes share one unit, so no conversion happens. Use a decimal point (2.5, not 2,5).
Fill in three of the four boxes and leave one empty. The empty one is calculated.

Formulas
- Dilution: C1 × V1 = C2 × V2.
- Solvent to add: V2 − V1.
- Dilution factor: C1 ÷ C2.
- Serial step: transfer volume = volume made ÷ factor; solvent = volume made − transfer volume.
- Tube n: starting concentration ÷ factorⁿ.
In a series, every tube except the last gives up one transfer volume when the next tube is made, so make each tube large enough for whatever you need to keep as well. Errors in a stock multiply through a series; see solubility and aggregation basics for why measured values matter.
